Christopher has a new Caregiver. She is a Certified Nurses Assistant (CNA). Her duties includes helping him dress, feeding, bathing, physical activities and a multitude of love and attention necessary for his well being. Christopher has many needs, and hopefully they will be met in a professional manner. We feel very fortunate to have assistance for a child that means so much to all of us. Christopher is getting bigger and stronger as he grows. Along with his increased strength comes more problems that need attention. When frustrated, he violently pounds the sides of his head with his fists causing bruises that will not heal and thus could promote more serious Medical problems if not corrected. This is not caused from anger more than just the lack of communication. He cannot talk or present his wishes or desires to us in a useful manner, and likewise, we are unable to communicate with him without much difficulty. Although these episodes may only last a few seconds, (until we can get to him and divert his attention elsewhere) the mere frequency of these occurrences are enough to inflict injury that will not easily heal. ** UPDATE **
Christopher's school teacher's who are aware of his problems and searching for answers with us, provided a protective Helmet for him to wear at home and at school. His Primary Care provider has also given us a referral to a Prosthetic company in Lakeland that is measuring Christopher for a Special Head Protecter fitted especially for him. His School and his Doctor responded to our pleas really fast. Christopher doesn't process Pain the same as we do, and is unaware of the damage he may be inflicting upon himself. He desperately needed everyone's help to prevent further injury to himself. And he got it.......really fast. Christopher Thanks You
Christopher takes the Bus to School. He isn't 4 yrs old yet, and he is attending a Pre-K Autistic Class at Seven Oaks Elementary in Wesley Chapel. He leaves home at 8:30 and gets back at 5. A full day for such a small tot. We love him. |
